Barytes (Barium Sulphate)

Baryte is a natural mineral consisting of Barium Sulphate (BaSO4). The word Baryte means heavy in Greek language from where it is derived. Barytes is renowned for its high specific gravity (>4.2), low solubility and non-toxic nature among other minerals. It is physically and chemically non-reactive. For comparison, the specific gravity of calcium carbonate is about 2.7. This property has some interesting implications for paint formulations. Baryte is a sulfate mineral with rich barium; insoluble in water and acids; non-toxic, non-magnetic; can absorb X-ray and V-ray; mainly used in magcobar, glass clarify agent, latent solvent, rubber, plastic, paints fillers etc.

Standard Baryte is grinded from the high quality reserves of Pakistan which are known for high brightness, high specific gravity, high purity and low heavy metal contents. This makes the Standard Baryte most suitable for the paints, pigment & coatings industry.

Barytes is commonly categorized into two grades on basis of color/whiteness: White and Off-White; Standard Baryte FP Series and Standard Baryte WAG Series. The WAG Series has brightness >94% and is highly pure BaSO4> 97%, making it the best source of barium sulphate known in the world.

White Barytes is mainly used in the Paints & coatings, Paper, Rubber and Chemical industry, while the Off-White Barytes is suitable for Oil and Gas drilling and rubber industry.

Paints & Coatings

Barite is commonly only used in powder coatings and high-performance specialty finishes, but does enjoy more general paint uses in regions of the world where paint is sold by weight rather than by volume. Standard Baryte has a controlled fine particle size distribution, exceptional chemical inertness and high specific gravity which enhances the gloss, flow and overall performance of paints and coatings like Gloss & Semi-Gloss Enamles, Gloss Latex, Automotive Primers etc. It improves adhesion, surface leveling, opacity and gloss of powder coatings even when substituted with the more expensive Titanium dioxide, thus resulting in optimum cost.

Plastics

Standard Barytes is chemically stable and highly heat resistant. The other unique properties of high density, low Mohs hardness and low binder requirement make it highly recommended for a wide range of applications in the plastics industry.

Rubber

Standard Barytes can be used as the filling of rubber products to save cost. It can improve the intensity, and acid, alkali, and water proof, and also has benefit for the Natural Rubber and Synthetic Rubber.

Pharmaceutical

In medicine, it can be used as barium meal material for the intestines and stomach reflection, and also the filling for plaster and dope to extend the time limit.

Paper-Making

In the papermaking industry, Standard Barytes can be used as the filling of white paperboard and coat paper, improve the whiteness and percentage of coverage.

Cosmetics

In cosmetics, Standard Barytes can be a substitute of titanium dioxide, for its white and gentle, and harmless to the skin.
